Steve West is the owner and operator of HitOldies. After the passing of former station leader Mike Raub, Steve revived the operation and has since overseen major initiatives including the WNBC Time Machine events, evening and overnight Time Machine programming for the late Chris DiPaola of Stereo 1230/106.1 WBLQ, recreations of classic WABC New York and WLAM Lewiston 1970s Top 40 formats, and several staff reunions.

Steve’s radio career began in 1980 at a small AM “graveyard frequency” station in his hometown. He went on to work at WFGL AM, WFMP-FM (now 104.5 WXLO), and WHAI AM/FM in Greenfield, MA before enlisting in the U.S. Navy. Even during active duty, he remained connected to broadcasting, appearing on WEZL in Charleston, SC and KOUL in Corpus Christi, TX between deployments.

After completing 13 years of honorable military service, Steve returned to Massachusetts for additional roles at WHAI and WINQ in Winchendon. He later relocated to Memphis, TN, where he spent seven years as a full-time national radio news anchor while also working at 94.1 WOGY (Froggy 94), WGKX Kix 106—serving as night DJ and morning news contributor—and voice tracking for WJZN Smooth Jazz 98.9. He then moved to heritage station WMC-FM (FM 100) for the 6 p.m.–midnight shift.

Returning to New England in 2007, Steve worked at several small stations, relocated to Connecticut, married his wife Nancy, and joined HitOldies during its early days as a weekend format in Sherbrooke, Quebec. He also worked with Mike Raub at WCTZ 96.7 The Coast and later at WSTC/WNLK during its final years as a commercial station.

After Mike Raub’s passing in 2019, Steve waited a year out of respect for the Raub family before rebuilding HitOldies in early 2020, developing it into the station it is today.

Steve lives in Naugatuck, CT with his wife Nancy, their dog Zoie, and their cat Jinx. He continues to broadcast from his home studio and remains active in amateur radio under the callsign K1FRC.

Richie N.jpg

He was born and raised in Upstate New York’s Capital Region, where he continues to reside.

From an early age, he was drawn to Top 40 radio—the DJs, the jingles, and the energy of the music. That passion led to his first on-air position at Schenectady’s 3WD AM 1240 in 1983, at just 16 years old. Stepping into the studio for the first time marked the beginning of a lifelong broadcasting career.

He has since worked at numerous stations throughout the Albany–Schenectady–Troy market, including THE GREAT 98 WTRY, WVKZ KZ 96.7, WQQY 102 DOUBLE Q, OLDIES 99.5 WGY-FM, COUNTRY 107.7 WGNA-FM, MAGIC 100.9 WKLI, and MAGIC 100.5/590 WROW.

In addition to his love of radio—and an enthusiastic collection of station jingles—he enjoys attending concerts and is an avid New York Yankees and New York Giants fan.

He can be heard Monday through Saturday from 2 PM to 6 PM on America's Greatest Hits!

Steve Gerren.jpg

(Weekday Evenings 6-8pm)

Steve Garren launched his radio career in the late 1970s, moving from two and a half years at his high school’s 10-watt station, KDXL-FM, directly into major-market radio at age 18 with his first professional job at 50,000-watt WLOL-FM in Minneapolis. He continued developing his skills at the University of Minnesota’s WMMR, serving as an on-air personality, production director, and sales manager while completing his bachelor’s degree.

After college, Steve returned to professional broadcasting with roles at several notable stations, including WWTC-AM (“Solid Gold 1280”), KJJO-FM (“20 Years of Great Ones”), KRSI-AM, and KEEY-FM (“Today’s Country K102”). His experience across diverse formats has shaped a versatile and well-rounded major-market career.

Beyond radio, Steve has worked as a roller-rink and event DJ, narrated planetarium shows, and voiced numerous radio and television commercials.

Steve believes many of today’s radio formats have lost the personality that defined the industry in the ’70s and early ’80s—an era he proudly represents. His energetic, upbeat style and genuine love of music bring a refreshing alternative to formulaic programming. When Steve is on the air, his goal is simple: have fun and brighten your day.

11 PM-12 AM Monday-Friday with New York's Best Rock and Saturday 8-9 PM, Sunday 6-8pm playing the best Classic Hits and 8-9 PM with New York's Best Rock!

What is “New York’s Best Rock?

Ask anyone who grew up in the New York area in the ’70s, and they’ll tell you. Hard as it is to believe now, AM radio ruled the airwaves in the early to mid-70s. Stations played tightly programmed Top 40 lists, with some songs repeating every 45 minutes. For music fans hungry for more, it wasn’t enough.

That’s why New York was fortunate to have a station proudly calling itself “New York’s Best Rock.” It broke the mold by playing deep album cuts at a time when album sales were just beginning to eclipse singles. As an early Album-Oriented Rock (AOR) station, it gave listeners their first real taste of tracks beyond the hits—and it became a phenomenon. Ask anyone of a certain age today, and they still remember not just the music, but the DJs who became stars themselves. Big names like John Lennon and Elton John often stopped by the studio for on-air conversations.

But nothing lasts forever. In 1983, New York’s Best Rock signed off for good—but it was never forgotten.

Matt  was one of the young fans growing up under its influence. The station shaped his musical tastes and stayed with him long after it disappeared. Decades later, he channeled that passion into his own weekly radio program—not a recreation of the original station, but his vision of what New York’s Best Rock might have become if it had lived on past 1983.

Matt graduated from the New York Institute of Technology with a BFA in Communication Arts and worked at WGLI-AM and WNYG-AM in Babylon, NY. He also hosted "Studio 108" on WEBE 108 on as the primary fill-in host from 2004-2005. After a successful career in sales, he retired in 2021. He has hosted New York’s Best Rock since 2020. He also runs BigAppleAirchecks.com, the premier aircheck collectors’ site since 2002.

Matt joined HitOldies in 2020 and currently hosts the Sunday 6–8 PM Classic Hits show.

He lives on Long Island with his wife, daughter, and three cats.

Luke W.jpg

Ever since Luke was a little Warm back in the 1970s, he dreamed of being on the radio. Once he was old enough, he enrolled in the New School of Contemporary Radio in Albany, New York, and soon after graduating landed his first on-air job.

Luke launched his career in the late ’80s at a small station called 3WD in Schenectady, New York. Luke had a memorable first moment on the air when he played "Beth" by Kiss accidentally on the wrong speed. His first words on the microphone were, "Beth sure was a fast woman for a moment."

Since then, he’s been—quite literally—“up and down the dial,” working nearly every format from Adult Contemporary and Country to Oldies and more. His radio journey has taken him through New York’s Capital District where he started at WWWD - Schenectady, Southern Tier and Western, NY at WDNY-Dansville, WCJW-Warsaw, WJQZ-Wellsville, back to the Capital Region at WGY-FM (WRVE) Schenectady, WGNA-Albany and a brief stop in Massachusetts at WBEC-Pittsfield, MA. Luke even worked at a station that had an all-request drive-thru window (WJQZ)—yes, he actually worked the drive-thru. (no money or food was ever involved)

After taking more than 20 years away from broadcasting, Luke was brought into America's Greatest Hits by Steve West on Super Bowl Sunday 2025 (February 9th), and he’s thrilled to be back on the air.

Today, Luke lives in Tennessee with his family. He’s also an avid cyclist who participates each September in charity rides to raise money for children’s cancer research.

A seasoned broadcast engineer, Bob has built numerous radio stations from the ground up—and notably constructed the studios used by ESPN.

Every few years, Bob hosts the “Tri-Annual Radio BBQ,” a gathering that brings together some of North America’s most respected broadcasters. At the most recent event, he designed a custom studio, installed a fully restored “Stereo Statesman” audio board (a restoration he completed himself), and broadcast the celebration on WRMI Shortwave in partnership with the “Totally 70s Radio Network.”

One of the earliest photos of Kipper McGee? Fresh out of the hospital, “talking”

into venetian blind cords like they were a microphone. Some things stick.

Midwest kid. Grew up glued to big-signal AM Top 40 out of Milwaukee, Chicago,

Detroit, New York City. The kind of radio where the jocks were as big as the

hits—and made a career feel inevitable.

Early stops: overnights, coffee runs, and whatever-it-takes gigs in small Midwest

markets. Then Santa Fe, Rochester, MN, Decatur, IL. Back to Milwaukee…where

things accelerated.

On-air success led to getting “kicked upstairs”—programming and leadership

roles in Iowa, San Diego, St. Louis, Orlando…then his lifelong dream station:

WLS Radio in Chicago. Yes, that WLS.

These days, Kipper splits time between coaching media pros through his

BRANDwidth coaching practice and jumping back behind the mic—right where he

started. Because at the end of the day, it’s not about titles or markets.

It’s about the music, the memories…

…and that little red “ON AIR” light that still feels like home.
